CINCINNATI, OH - Registration for the Open Division of Ernst & Young Relay Event in the 3rd Annual Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon opens on January 8, 2001. This sought after category has sold out each year within days of it opening, as the event fills to its 200-team limit on a first come first registered basis.

"The Open Relay is a hot event because of the team environment it affords people who wish to be a part of the marathon," commented Race Director Rich Williams. "Each member runs a six to eight mile leg of the race. They all have to count on each other - it's invaluable incentive and a great morale boost and a whole lot of fun!"

The Relay starts at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 6, 2001 in Downtown Cincinnati along with the individual Marathon participants. The same exact course is followed, with three designated spots where the switch from one leg to another is made. Each relay team will be given one ChampionChip timing device in the team packet. This Chip is handed off when each member begins his or her leg of the race for official timing purposes.

All relay members will receive a T-shirt, a poster, a finisher's medal, and a special gift.

Runners may apply for the Ernst & Young Open Relay Division on-line via the website at , starting at Midnight on January 8th, or download an application from the website and mail it in. Applications will also be available at the Marathon offices and area running stores. The registration fee for an Open Relay team is $200.00/team and a capacity of 200 teams. The Corporate Relay team has a capacity of 100 teams with a registration fee of $500.00/team.

"The Open Relay Team event is a very popular one. I would advise anyone interested to register as soon as possible once registration opens on the 8th of January," noted Executive Director Kelly Weissmann.

Corporations that sponsor a relay team will receive, among other things, a listing in the Official Relay Event Weekend Guide and recognition in a full-page "thank you" ad, both provided by the Cincinnati Business Courier. Over 50% of the corporate team entry fee of $500 will directly benefit the marathon charities. The marathon, which expects to sell out at 7,500 participants, will be broadcast live on WCPO-TV Channel 9. Ernst & Young is the title sponsor of the Relay event.
