JOIN THE PIG TO 'CLEAN UP' CINCINNATI
Marathon recruiting for volunteers

Cincinnati, Ohio (March 14, 2004) - The Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon joins Keep Cincinnati Beautiful, Inc., in the Great American Cleanup day on Saturday, April 23. The Marathon is asking charities, youth organizations and volunteers of all ages to help clean up the neighborhoods along the course route before the 7th annual Marathon, Sunday, May 1.

"The Flying Pig Marathon is a great way for our neighborhoods to put their 'best foot forward' for the thousands of runners going through," said Iris Simpson-Bush, executive director. "The Marathon wants to be a gracious guest to these neighborhoods, so we welcome the chance to help our communities clean up before the race in conjunction with the Keep Cincinnati Beautiful campaign."

This year is the 20th anniversary of the Great American Cleanup project, part of the Keep America Beautiful program. The local program, Keep Cincinnati Beautiful, dates back to July 1978.

Groups and individuals who want to join the Flying Pig Marathon in the April 23 cleanup effort should call the Marathon office at 513-721-PIGS by March 31. Keep Cincinnati Beautiful then will assign groups along the Marathon course, where cleanup crews are needed the most. The Marathon will provide rubber gloves and trash bags for its volunteers. For more information on the Great American Cleanup, go to www.greatamericancleanup.org.

The 7th annual Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon weekend is Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1.
