CINCINNATI (April 28, 2008) — Along with a record registration of more than 22,000 for the Flying Pig Marathon weekend events, celebrities from the running world will be coming to Cincinnati to mark the10th anniversary of the Flying Pig Marathon.

Hal Higdon, Runner's World contributor and author, Dick Beardsley, who holds the fifth fastest U.S men's marathon time, and Henry Rono, international Track and Field Athlete of the Year in 1978, will be at the Flying Pig Marathon Health & Fitness Expo presented by National City, at the Duke Energy Center on Saturday, May 3.

Hal Higdon has contributed to Runner's World for longer than any other writer, an article by Hal having appeared in that publication's second issue in 1966. He is the author of 34 books, including the best-selling Marathon: The Ultimate Training Guide. He ran eight times in the Olympic Trials and won four world masters championships. One of the founders of the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA), Higdon also was a finalist in NASA's Journalist-in-Space program to ride the space shuttle. He serves as a training consultant for The LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon and answers questions online for TrainingPeaks, also providing interactive training programs.

Although his competitive running career as an elite athlete ended in 1988, Dick Beardsley still has the 5th fastest U.S. men's marathon time in history. Best known for his 1982 Boston Marathon "Duel in the Sun" with Alberto Salazar, Dick is also a two-time Olympic Trials Marathon qualifier. He is a two-time winner and course record holder of the Grandma's Marathon in Duluth, Minnesota and has won the London and Napa Valley marathons. He will be at the Expo at the Marathon and Beyond booth.

In 1978 Rono was an unprecedented unanimous choice as international Track and Field Athlete of the Year. He took the racing community by storm by breaking the 10,000m, 3,000m Steeplechase, 3,000m and 5,000m world records in three different countries in less than three months. No distance runner ever has had a year like that. On Saturday Rono will be at the Expo at the Duke Energy Center. He will be available for conversation, autographs, and signings of his new book, "Olympic Dreams".

The 10th annual Flying Pig Marathon weekend will be Friday, May 2-Sunday, May 4, 2008, featuring the full marathon, Half Marathon presented by National City and Ernst & Young 4-Person Relay, Business Courier CEO Challenge, Toyota 10K, Fleet Feet Sports 5K and the Piglet presented by First Watch, The Enquirer and Children's Hospital. Other events include the National City Expo and Duke Energy Pasta "Pig Out" Dinner. Presenting sponsors are Duke Energy, National City, CoActive Marketing Group, Ernst and Young and Paycor.
