Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon
The SQUEAL : April 2011
The latest and greatest news from the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon

Greetings!

The Flying Pig Marathon powered by P&G was proud to welcome the Reds home Thursday as part of the Findlay Market Opening Day Parade! The float's theme, "Rounding Third and Hightailing it Home" won third place out of the 200+ entries of the parade. Congratulations to everyone who participated, and it was great to see so many fans of the Pig line the streets to say hi!

Registration Deadline Coming Up!

It's no April fool, the Flying Pig Marathon weekend powered by P&G is just a month away! There's lots to do before the Marathon weekend-and if you haven't registered yet, this weekend is the time to do so before the next price increase. Being registered before that April 5 deadline assures that you'll get your name on your bib, premium gift, shirt and all the other goodies. You can still sign up at the P&G Expo, but you won't be able to have your name printed, and you won't be able to take advantage of the best prices on your registration. So make sure you go to www.flyingpigmarathon.com and sign up today!

Fun on the Course

New this year, the Flying Pig Hogwash Station fueled by the Greater Cincinnati Water Works! Runners approaching Mile 23 will want to be on the lookout for the Flying Pig Marathon's Hogwash Station. Cool down with a refreshing mist of water provided by the Greater Cincinnati Water Works and then dry off with a clean, crisp Cincinnati Reds Rally Towel. Feel free to skip the spray and simply accept a wet or dry Rally Towel from one of the energetic and enthusiastic volunteers. Keep the towel or toss it away and we will collect for proper disposal. As you're closing in on the final miles of the marathon, you'll want to look your best for the photographers at the finish line. You can freshen up at the Hogwash Station along Riverside Drive and look great when you finish the marathon!

We also have more than 80 Entertainment Zones along the way, from bands to jugglers to DJs. And our East End Party Zone at mile 21.5 of the marathon near Stanley and Eastern Avenue will be the place for spectators to hang out and cheer on their favorite runners and walkers. We'll have refreshments, music and, of course, the loudest cheering section on the marathon route!

And don't forget you can go "Hog Wild" in our "Ham it Up" contest for charities. It's a great way to have fun and get a cash reward for having the best Pig spirit on the course!

PickupPal

It's part of the Flying Pig's continued efforts to recycle, reuse and be a 'green' event. Interested in ride sharing or carpooling to the Flying Pig events? Sign up for a PickupPal account and become members of a growing and dynamic community. It is free to join and to use. On the site members can post routes as passengers and/or drivers, they can complete a profile, upload a photo. Within their account, PickupPals can track the number of miles they have traveled via ride sharing and the Flying Pig can keep track of the amount of emissions we have all reduced as a result. See it yourself, click here to go to the website.

Pasta "Pig Out" Tickets on Sale

Haven't made dinner plans for Saturday night before the Marathon? Then join us for our Pasta "Pig Out" on Fountain Square. We have two seatings at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. for your convenience. Check the signup sheet on the Flying Pig website or buy tickets at the P&G Expo. We'll see you there!

Your Time's Important

With this year's marathon running the same day as an afternoon Cincinnati Reds game, it's more important than ever that runners and walkers heed the instructions from police and safety personnel along the course. The finish line area will need to be cleared early in the afternoon to make way for the Reds fans, so if you are walking the course, please be aware of your time and know that you may have to finish on the sidewalk when the streets are re-opened. Your safety is our main concern!
