Get your school involved in the Flying Pig Kids Marathon
Once again this year the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon is partnering with the Nutrition Council and the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County to help youngsters “Be Smart, Eat Well and Move More” through the Kids Marathon, sponsored by Ernst & Young, and there’s still time to get your youngsters involved.
Schools or groups interested in participating in the Kids Marathon can attend an
informational meeting on October 13th from 4-5pm at the offices of The Flying Pig Marathon, 644 Linn Street, in the third floor conference room. More information on the Kids Marathon is available on the Flying Pig Marathon website.
The Kids Marathon allows youngsters to finish the 26.2 miles of a marathon in incremental steps, a half mile or mile at a time during the school year. During the year, youngsters mark their distances on the Kids Marathon “Hog Log” which is available in the Kids Marathon section of the Flying Pig Marathon website. Participants also mark down their reading progress and their healthy eating habits on the “Hog Log.”
The final mile of the ‘course’ will be run on the actual Marathon course on Saturday, May 1, during Flying Pig Marathon weekend.
Help the “Pig” help the needy
In 2009, one of the “official” Flying Pig charities, Matthew 25: Ministries, decided to take a slightly different approach to their “Pig” involvement and provided additional sponsorship for the entire Flying Pig Grunt (volunteer) program. Next month, Matthew 25:
Ministries will hold its own event to help the needy. Come join us as we participate in the upcoming Fighting Hunger 5K Run/Walk on November 7th in Blue Ash. Visit www.hunger5K.org for more information about the race or to register online.
As you may already know, an integral part of the Flying Pig mission is to raise money for a number of local charities. There are so many worthwhile and deserving organizations in our community that our numbers continually grow, but we currently have 130 “Official” Flying Pig charities. They collectively bring more than 4,000 volunteers who help make the Flying Pig Marathon weekend of events so successful. To all of them we offer heartfelt thanks for all they do.
Go to Charities Listing to learn more about Matthew 25: Ministries and the mission of all of our other participating Grunt organizations as well. You'll also find information on how charities and organizations you might know can join our
Grunt force. We'll see you there!
