East End is Miles 23 – 25 of the full marathon course. Runners and walkers will be in the East End. This section of the marathon course can be the greatest challenge to the runners and walkers. Although relatively flat, the road is void of any shaded area and is a straightway to the finish. Marathoners will appreciate the enthusiasm of spectators enjoying the Party Zone at Delta Avenue and Riverside Drive that offers free refreshments and entertainment. Plenty of free parking is available at Columbia Square just off Columbia Parkway east of Delta Avenue. This part of town once boasted a world-class shipbuilding industry but as river transport was replaced by rail and then roads, the industry declined. St Rose Church, established in 1868, highlights this section of the course. Beyond St Rose is a section of new condos which have been built since the first running of the Flying Pig Marathon. Past the new condos is Verdin Bell Manufacturing which has been casting bells since 1842 and produced the World Peace Bell which participants passed at mile 2 in Newport, Kentucky.
