Marketing Communications Manager

Can you help us put the fun in our runs? Pig Works, the parent non-profit organization of the Flying Pig Marathon, Queen Bee Half Marathon, TQL Beer Series and FCC3, is seeking a full-time running mate for our team. 

The Marketing Communications Manager is a salaried position that will manage the planning, development and execution of marketing and communications strategies, ultimately enhancing visibility and strengthening our brand position. We are looking for someone with long-term vision and the ability to focus on the daily marketing and communication operations. This position will be responsible for multi-channel campaigns to support Pig Works as a non-profit and all annual events we produce – critical to our organization achieving our short- and long-term growth goals. Creativity, strong writing ability and project management skills required. 

This position will report directly to our chief operating officer. The marketing communications manager will work with our sponsorship team, as well as other colleagues on public & media relations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Digital Marketing – Manage strategies and executions of all digital channels with an eye for measurement, engagement and results. Create content strategy and develop content for multiple channels and audiences
    • Maintain and update website(s) design, content and event pages
      • Utilize assessment tools such as Google Analytics to analyze website performance and identify improvements in user experience. 
    • Manage development and distribution of all email marketing campaigns and event communication 
      • Develop timelines and manage schedules for all event newsletters
      • Responsible for drafting original copy and graphics to encourage participation and/or provide race updates
      • Target various groups and create copy specific to their need
      • Oversee email lists, segmentation and content development
      • Analyze email metrics, sharing results and adjust strategies based on outcomes 
    • Strategically manage all aspects of the Pig Works social media channels (full list below)
      • Create timeline and content calendar for all channels
      • Strategically develop posts for all outlets, including copy and creative
      • Monitor and respond to all messages, comments and posts within social media channels
      • Work with sales team to develop creative ways to involve and promote race sponsors
      • Identify future channels for race promotions
      • Coordinating all on-site social communications at events using existing media team capabilities and event updates 
      • Develop a marketing plan for paid social media marketing via sponsored posts, etc.
    • Deliver and manage influencer strategy and programs to drive awareness and engagement
  • Communications: Responsible for annual communication strategy and execution 
    • Develop annual PR/Media relations and content strategy
    • Manage PR agency and deliverables to achieve plan and desired targets  
    • Develop ongoing pitch strategies and story ideas
  • Advertising and Brand Management:  Ensures consistency of brand and key strategic messages across all platforms and materials
    • Oversee marketing and advertising budget
    • Responsible for overall messaging strategy and management
    • Oversee advertising efforts, including digital, print, TV, radio, etc.
    • Responsible for creative for all marketing assets and management of designers/vendors
  • General 
    • Create, build and have fun in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
    • Work directly with the leadership and sales team to identify promotional opportunities. and execute project needs and specifications. 
    • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and increase operational efficiency and help set up and improve workflow processes when and where needed.
    • Additional team responsibilities including working promotional events as required by all staff.

Qualifications and Requirements:

The successful candidate will be a detail-oriented, self-starter with strong organizational and writing skills. This team player must be flexible, enthusiastic and possess an energetic personality.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment 
  • Knowledge of the running/event industry 
  • Previous Social/Digital campaign experience 
  • Mandatory event attendance for all Pig Works events 
  • Willingness to to help achieve organizational and team needs to produce successful events
  • Manual labor as required for event preparation and execution

Education/Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience 
  • Bachelor’s Degree 
  • Knowledge of the running industry or events preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, email marketing platforms specifically SalesForce Marketing Cloud, social media outlets and Photoshop or other digital editing.
