Volunteers

At Pig Works we rely heavily on volunteers and their strong dedication to keep our events running. The majority of our volunteers represent a non-profit organization who recruits a group of volunteers to fill a need at one of our races. In line with our mission, Pig Works will make a donation to that non-profit organization for the volunteers' time. Other volunteer slots are filled by individuals and all are a valuable key to the success of our events.

Volunteer FAQs

Great! Most volunteers are part of a group earning a donation for their non-profit/charity or giving back to the community as part of a company outing. The group leader should start by submitting the group interest form, a member of the volunteer team will then be in touch to discuss opportunities and determine the best volunteer assignment for your group. Click here to fill out the form.

We are happy to have individual volunteers sign up! Feel free to choose from any of the various individual volunteer options. Small groups of individual volunteers can choose the same assignment and inform the key volunteers at volunteer check-in that you would like to stick together at your assignment.

Volunteers must be 14 years or older. In most volunteer assignments, adults are welcome to volunteer and bring their child. For volunteers ages 14 to 16, we ask that there is at least a 4 to 1 adult-to-youth ratio.

Absolutely! Please reach out to the volunteer coordinator at lauren@flyingpigmarathon.com and we will be happy to sign service hour documents.

Most of our volunteer opportunities happen outside on race day, rain or shine, while others occur indoors or under shelter. It’s best to dress in layers to adapt to various conditions. A volunteer t-shirt will be provided to you at the time of your assignment and should be worn while volunteering. Race officials, participants, and law enforcement rely on recognizing volunteers by their t-shirts. Please wear comfortable shoes as you will likely be standing for long periods of time. If a personal bag is needed, please plan for this to be worn by you during your volunteer assignment.

We recommend bringing water and snacks and planning to eat prior to your volunteer assignment. You may consider bringing sunblock, sunglasses, a hat, an extra layer etc. Please keep in mind belongings should stay with you.

Your volunteer captain will try to provide recommended parking details prior to your assignment. With volunteers needed across all 26.2+ miles of the race as well as various other locations across town such as at the expo, the best parking options will vary. Please plan ahead and utilize resources such as our parking and road closure guides to determine the best plan of action.

We recognize the hard work and sacrifice that goes into volunteering and hope the over 10,000 volunteers that assist us each year feel valued. As a non-profit event we do not have the budget available to offer free or reduced entry. Please know that you are appreciated, and your support allows us to do great things for charities around the Tri-State!

Please send an email to the Volunteer and Course Experience Coordinator at Lauren@flyingpigmarathon.com and we will be in touch with you!
