Fall virtual participants will receive final virtual instructions via email in late September. If you have additional questions that are not answered using the FAQs below, please contact us at email@example.com
WHAT IS A VIRTUAL EVENT?
A virtual event allows participants to complete the race on their own. You will run or walk the race distance at your own pace and at a time and location of your choosing. You choose your own race day and your own starting line, whether it’s a treadmill, a park or your neighborhood street. This option will allow youth to continue choosing healthy habits as they train for their respective Flying Pig event and be rewarded for their efforts with a Flying Pig shirt and medal.
DO I HAVE TO RUN MY VIRTUAL EVENT ON A SPECIFIC WEEKEND?
No, you choose your planned race date. We encourage participants to complete their virtual events between October 1 and November 15, 2021.
WILL IT BE A SET COURSE OR ONE WE CAN MAKE UP?
Participants will be choosing their own route for the virtual event. If you’re participating with a youth group, they may have a final mile event planned at their own site. Be sure to check with your group leader for more details.
WE SPECIFICALLY ASK THAT YOU DO NOT USE ANY OF OUR RACE DAY ROUTES AS THESE ARE NOT PEDESTRIAN SAFE WITHOUT THE USUAL STREET CLOSURES AND POLICE ASSISTANCE WITH TRAFFIC.
DO I NEED TO UPLOAD RESULTS FOR MY CHILD?
We’re going to be on the honor system for completing the event. However, we do encourage that you upload their finish time to our results page. You will have the option to upload your results manually or through the ASICS Runkeeper App. This is completely optional and not required in order to receive your child’s shirt and medal.
After virtual final instructions are sent, you will receive a separate email on how to merge your race(s) from your Race Roster account to your Runkeeper profile. You will then select “Start Virtual Run” and follow the prompts to record your participation. Once recorded, your results will post automatically to Race Roster.
WHAT PARTICIPANT AMENITIES WILL I RECEIVE FOR THE VIRTUAL EVENT?
You will receive a shirt and medal for the event(s) you complete virtually. We will mail to the address provided during the registration process. Please note that the estimated shipping time may take longer for participants living outside the U.S.
Downloadable race bibs, commemorative poster and finisher certificates will be available.
HOW CAN I REGISTER FOR THE FLYING PIG VIRTUAL EVENTS?
Registration for the 2021 fall virtual is open, click here to register.
CAN I STILL REGISTER FOR THE VIRTUAL EVENT WITH A PAPER FORM?
Participants: Reach out to your group leader to see if a paper entry form is an option for your group.
Group Leaders: Check your digital materials for more information about this option including deadlines for submission.
WHAT IF MY SCHOOL/TRAINING GROUP IS NOT CURRENTLY MEETING IN PERSON?
Some groups may continue their Flying Pig training remotely in the fall. Talk to your group leader for more details. Participants can still train and complete fitness activities from home under supervision from a friend or family member. Our incremental marathon or 5K program can be turned into a fitness project for the whole family. It doesn’t matter how fast you go, just that you keep moving and continue to make healthy choices!
CAN I SIGN MY CHILD UP FOR THE VIRTUAL 26TH MILE OR 5K EVENT EVEN IF THEIR GROUP DECIDES NOT TO TRAIN TOGETHER THIS SPRING?
You do not have to be part of a group in order to register for one of our youth events! We encourage families to participate as a fun way to stay active together. Additional youth training resources can be found on our Youth Program page.
CAN THE FLYING PIG MASCOT VISIT MY SCHOOL?
Subject to mascot availability, we may be able to make mascot visits to your school. We’re happy to consider other “virtual” ways to interact with your school/group. Please reach out with ideas or requests.
HOW DO I GET MY SCHOOL OR GROUP INVOLVED IN THE YOUTH PROGRAM?
Reach out to us via email at firstname.lastname@example.org to learn more about our programs. All group leaders will be given digital materials to get started. Special registration discounts and perks are granted to official Flying Pig Youth Groups.
CAN I HOST A “FINAL MILE” OR 26TH MILE EVENT AT MY OWN SCHOOL OR SITE?
Check with your school or site to see if this is a possibility. We strongly encourage all official Flying Pig youth groups to follow state and local mandates and any public health & safety guidelines issued in your area. If you choose to host your own event, it is at your own risk. Finish Swine banners can be rented at no charge and will be available on a first come, first served basis.
WHAT IS A HOG LOG?
A Hog Log is a paper training tracker for Flying Pig events. This log encourages the development of healthy habits and behaviors. Each program has its own Hog Log depending on your virtual race distance.
IS THERE A WAY TO TRACK MILEAGE DIGITALLY?
Yes, with the help of a parent, youth participants can track their training mileage through Race Roster. For more information on this feature, including a step by step how-to guide, click here.
DOES MY CHILD/GROUP NEED TO COMPLETE THEIR HOG LOG BEFORE PARTICIPATION IN THEIR VIRTUAL EVENT?
Hog Logs are a great way to keep track of training miles. While we do not require that your Hog Log is completed prior to your virtual event, we strongly encourage you to complete all of the miles on your Hog Log. This program is designed to help create healthy habits. Keeping a log of your progress is a great way to stay motivated and stick to your goals!
