Race Overview

The Flying Pig Kids’ Marathon presented by Cincinnati Children’s is an award-winning youth fitness program of the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon. Our youth program is a fun way for school-aged children to be involved in the community celebration leading up to and during Flying Pig Marathon Weekend. Crossing the Flying Pig Marathon finish “swine” and earning a real Flying Pig medal, we hope, will set the stage for a lifetime of healthy behaviors.

Children will complete full marathon distance, in increments, during the months leading up to The Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon. In addition, The Cincinnati Children’s 26th Mile is a special event where kids can complete the 26th mile of their incremental marathon and receive a Flying Pig shirt and finisher medal!

After completing the first 25 miles of your “oink”remental marathon, you can complete the Cincinnati Children’s 26th Mile on May 6th in downtown Cincinnati! This is a special event where kids and their fitness buddies can cruise to their marathon finish, covering that final marathon mile and crossing the actual Flying Pig Marathon finish “swine.” Registration is required to receive participant premiums (shirt & medal). Adults and other siblings are also encouraged to participate if they are interested

Using the Hog Log to tally their miles, kids also learn to make healthy nutrition choices and exercise their brains with reading. It’s all about being smart, eating well, and moving more; healthy habits that we hope will stick around for good. Use this Marathon Map for Kids to follow your progress as if you were on the real Flying Pig Marathon course.

Get your own herd of pigs flying by becoming an official Flying Pig Kids’ Marathon Team. Parents, teachers, troop leaders, youth program coordinators, or adults who want to give kids an opportunity to be part of the Flying Pig Marathon and begin a lifetime of good health can lead a program. We will give you all the support and resources you need.

Not part of a group?

Children do not have to be part of a group to participate in the Cincinnati Children’s 26th Mile. This is a special 1 mile event to celebrate the weeks of training, one mile at a time, of a full marathon (26.2 miles). The program is intended as an incremental marathon program to show kids the values associated with training for a marathon and accomplishing a goal. We recommend downloading our Hog Log to share with your kids in the weeks leading up to the event. It’s a great way to start a family fitness plan and keep your child active. Normally this program is intended for grades K-6th, but we welcome all ages and abilities.

For children not participating with a youth group, we do recommend that an adult or older child register to participate with them. Due to the safety and security of all participants, only those registered with official 26th Mile race bibs are permitted on the course and inside the Finish Line. There will be plenty of spectator zones along the course and near the Finish Line for other family members not participating. A family reunion area will be set up in Smale Park, near the Finish Line exit. Final instructions including event maps and packet pick up information will be sent closer to the event date.

Be Smart, Eat Well, Move More and most of all Have Fun!
