The Flying Pig Kids’ Marathon presented by Cincinnati Children’s is an award winning youth fitness program of the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon. Our youth program is a fantastic way for school aged children to be involved in the community celebration leading up to and during Flying Pig Marathon Weekend. Crossing the actual Flying Pig Marathon finish “swine” and earning a real Flying Pig medal, we hope, will set the stage for a lifetime of healthy behaviors.
Children will complete full marathon distance, in increments, during the months leading up to The Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon. In addition, The Cincinnati Children’s 26th Mile is a special event where kids can complete the 26th mile of their incremental marathon on part of the actual Flying Pig Marathon course!
After completing the first 25 miles of your “oink”remental marathon, you can be part of The Cincinnati Children’s 26th Mile on Saturday, May 4, 2019. This is a special event where kids and their fitness buddies can cruise to their marathon finish, covering that final marathon mile and crossing the real Flying Pig Marathon finish “swine.” Participants get all the swag deserving of a marathoner including shirt, medal, and finisher’s treats. Registration is required. Adults can accompany kids but for safety and security of our children, we do ask that they be registered for the 26th Mile Event as well.
Using the 2019 Hog Log to tally their miles, kids also learn to make healthy nutrition choices and exercise their brains with reading. It’s all about being smart, eating well and moving more; healthy habits that we hope will stick around for good. Use this Marathon Map for Kids to follow your progress as if you were on the real Flying Pig Marathon course.
Get your own herd of pigs flying by becoming an official Flying Pig Kids’ Marathon Team. Parents, teachers, troop leaders, youth program coordinators, or adults who want to give kids a terrific opportunity to be part of The Flying Pig Marathon and begin a lifetime of good health can lead a program. We will give you all the support and resources you need.

Children do not have to be part of a group to participate in the Cincinnati Children’s 26th Mile. This is a special 1 mile event to celebrate the weeks of training, one mile at a time, of a full marathon (26.2 miles). The program is intended as an incremental marathon program to show kids the values associated with training for a marathon and accomplishing a goal. We recommend downloading our Hog Log to share with your kids in the weeks leading up to the event. It’s a great way to start a family fitness plan and keep your child active. Normally this program is intended for grades K-6th but we welcome all ages and abilities.
In the last few years, we have reached almost 4,000 participants per year that are participating in the program with their schools, sports teams or youth groups. All of the organized groups are assigned to one of five separate start waves. We stagger the waves 8 minutes apart to help make it safer and smoother. If your child is not part of a group, we recommend they go in Wave 5 so that they can see how the wave system works. Please note that the Finish Line is secure only for participants. If you want to accompany your child during the event, please register as a participant.
If you are planning on just being a spectator while your child participates, then you will need to arrange a meeting place near the Finish Line with them. We recommend the group reunion area inside Smale Park marked with “Reunion Area” Signage. We also ask that all children fill out the back of their bib with a cell phone contact. Please make sure your family has a plan to meet at a set location after the exit on Mehring Way. If you choose to stay on the course with your child then you must be registered for the Cincinnati Children’s 26th Mile Event and have an official race bib.
If you are concerned about the course lay-out or arranging a meeting place, you can visit the Kids’ Marathon table in the registration area at the Expo on Friday, May 3rd. Otherwise you can download our site map. You may want to drive or walk there to get a feel for the lay-out before the event date. We work very hard to set it up so that it is fun, safe and smooth sailing!
Be Smart, Eat Well, Move More and most of all Have Fun!
