Program Options

Check out the details for our two different youth training programs, the 26th Mile and Fly Up to 5K.

The 26th Mile Training Program uses our "oink-remental" marathon training method. Participants complete 25 miles over time through walking or running, then celebrate by completing the final mile on race weekend. This program is ideal for elementary aged children and middle school aged children looking to get started with running/walking.

Key Benefits:

  • Flexible implementation

  • Goal setting

  • School engagement

  • Accessible for all fitness levels

The Fly Up to 5K is the next phase of the Flying Pig Youth Program and has very similar components to the 26th Mile incremental program. It’s geared to older children in grades 6-8 or those in elementary school who have already completed the 26th Mile and are looking for a new running challenge.

Our goal is to keep youth engaged with running and walking throughout their adolescent years in hopes that they continue to practice healthy habits and stay active. Similar to our 26th Mile program, students can train for the 5K together as a group during the weeks leading up to the Flying Pig 5K.

Key Benefits:

  • Structured training

  • Increased endurance

  • Confidence building

Program Options:

  • Beginner 5K Program: This beginner version is designed for those who may not be runners yet but want to challenge themselves to complete a 5K! It slowly progresses from walking and running intervals until you can run a full 5K!
  • Intermediate 5K Running Program: This program is designed for those who are athletic and can already run at least a mile without walking. It is designed for athletes who want to stay in shape during the offseason or begin to compete at the 5K level.
